Holding Runners Next for Miller

Thus far in his first full season, there has been very little not to like about what Shelby Miller has provided the St. Louis Cardinals. His five wins, 57 strikeouts, and 1.40 earned run average are not just best among his fellow rookies–but also rank amongst the best in all of baseball. Not too mention, Shelby came within a broken bat single of recently hurling a perfect game.

That said, opposing base runners have had success in the running game against Miller, safely stealing seven of eight attempts with him on the mound. A week ago, Mike Matheny downplayed the stats–noting that Shelby’s delivery was consistently one of the fastest on the staff.

However, after the Mets ran on Miller in his last outing Wednesday night, Matheny re-visted the subject.
