As all of you know Texas A&M phenom Micheal Wacha made his MLB debut last night at Busch Stadium. The weather wasn’t great but Wacha WAS. After a tedious rain delay, Micheal marched up to that mound and pitched 7 strong innings, allowing 1 ER and striking out 6. What about that K/9 ratio in Memphis? Didn’t look like a problem to me. He brought a heavy dose of an electric fastball that touched 96mph and a DEVASTATING change-up. I can now see why scouts said in 2011 that he had the best change-up in the draft. Now I’m seeing a future best change-up in the MLB. He was a wizard on the mound and stuck it to the Royals with a confident demeanor and tall figure.
Just absolutely beautiful.
But that was just the calm before the storm. The bad weather was about to roll in both figuratively and literally.
Seth Maness comes in in the 8th and pitches a perfect and short inning, continuing to impress. Then Matheny looks at his roster card and apparently see’s MITCHEL BOGGS as the best option for the 9th. Boggs hadn’t made an appearance in a week where he promptly walked 2 and gave up a run in a loss to the Dodgers. The broadcasters sited this as a “confidence boost” for Boggs. Okay…
Boggs gives up a 2nd pitch homerun to Jeff Francoeur then WALKS the next guy up.
Confidence boost? In a 2-1 game?? Are you kidding me? I just don’t get what was going through Matheny’s head. But this time his LOVE for Mitchell Boggs has gone WAY too far. The broadcasters said, “Well you can afford to do this when you have a 35-17 record and is in 1st place”
Have you looked at the NL Central? The Pirates and Reds are winning at insane clips. You can NEVER afford to give away games. I’ve never been more disappointed in a manager than now. I’ve also never heard Busch boo a Cardinal player like they just booed Boggs. The fans know it. Mozeliak knows it. Just a stupid way to lose a game.
That is all.
(Okay maybe I’m a little bitter that I didn’t get a win from Wacha for my fantasy team…)
